Initially when i was told that were going to visit the Delta Senior School for Autistic kids, i was quite nervous. I had never met an autistic person before and thus i was a little apprehensive of the idea. I expected them to be pretty different and uncivilized. But in a matter of minutes of reaching the school, my view of them totally changed. They were very pleased to make us their acquaintance and were gracious hosts. They quickly learned the basics of three different games: floorball, football and basketball. It was fun to introduce them to new games and play with them.
I played floorball with them and sincerely had a great time. We mixed ourselves into two teams and played against each other. It was a spectacular experience as they were quick learners and showed some great skill. It was shocking as i did not expect them to comprehend the rules and technique of the game so quickly. But i think we ended up having a good time playing with each other and learning from each other as well. I learnt that i should never judge anyone before meeting them.
I definitely see myself being involved in the community in the future as i would love to do as much as i can for the less fortunate and render services to the best of my abilities. I believe that we need to give back to the community in any way we can to show them our gratitude.
